Licensed Professional Land Surveyor
Nan, Inc., Hawaii’s largest locally owned construction company, is seeking a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor to help lead and grow our in-house surveying capabilities. This is a strong opportunity for a motivated, licensed surveyor who wants to take ownership, support major construction projects throughout Hawaii, and help shape the future of Nan’s survey operations.
- Responsibilities:
- Lead and support survey operations for civil, building, federal, and infrastructure projects.
- Manage field crews, project control, layout, staking, and as-built documentation.
- Review survey data, field notes, calculations, CAD files, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and owners.
- Assist with developing internal survey standards, procedures, equipment needs, and staffing.
- Requirements:
- Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Hawaii, or ability to obtain Hawaii licensure.
- Experience with construction surveying, control, layout, topographic surveys, and as-builts.
- Knowledge of GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and survey software.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, maps, plats, and survey records.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass background checks required for access to military bases and federal project sites.
- Federal, heavy civil, or infrastructure experience preferred.

- Land Survey Field Technician – Party Chief
- Position description:
- Assist the Project Surveyor in completing the field crew's assigned survey projects.
- Ability to operate a total station instrument, GPS instrument and data collector.
- Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, and sketches.
- Collect information needed to carry out new surveys, using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information.
- Assist with the maintenance of survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
- Must be able to accurately perform vertical and horizontal control surveys and required calculations under the direction of the Licensed Professional Land Surveyor.
- Conduct project research, boundary calculations, and record survey data.
- Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
- Basic requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree or higher (preferred).
- Strong listening, writing, and verbal communications skills.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted survey practices and survey instruments.
- 2+ years of experience with progressively increasing knowledge and responsibility as a field technician (preferred).

- Position description:
- Assist the Survey Party Chief in completing the field crew's assigned survey projects.
- Preparing job sites to be surveyed: Transporting and setting up equipment, marking control benchmarks and/or legal boundaries, clearing the project site of trees or debris.
- Holding the prism pole so the Party Chief can determine measurement of different points at the project site.
- Operating instruments such as GPS or other technology to collect data that is used to prepare maps of project sites.
- Taking notes of the collected survey data.
- Assist with the maintenance of survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.

- Position description:
- Assist the licensed professional land surveyor in completing assigned projects.
- Draft topographical maps and/or display exhibits to assist the land surveying department.
- Assist land surveyor with drafting support for boundary lot closures.
- Assist the land surveyor with researching legal documentation and record maps regarding the project site’s property boundary limits and easements.
- Manage and organize CAD files.
- Basic requirements:
- 3 - 5 years’ experience of land surveying drafting (strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite applications (strongly preferred).
- Any Working knowledge any other CAD software such as Bentley Microstation, ArcGIS, Calrson Software (strongly preferred).
- Prior working experience in federal, civil engineering, or CAD-related projects (strongly preferred).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work extended hours, including after hours and/or weekends (when required).
- Maintain a current driver's license in good standing.
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Chainman/Survey Assistant - STANTEC
Stantec is seeking a Chainman/Survey Assistant for their Community Development group in Honolulu, HI, offering a salary range of $54,000 to $75,600. In this role, you will perform field surveying, mapping, and data collection under the guidance of a Party Chief, which includes operating Trimble robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and levels. Key responsibilities involve making accurate land measurements, transferring data to computer networks, maintaining field vehicles, and occasionally assisting with AutoCAD or GIS drawings. Successful candidates should have a technical degree or equivalent experience (1+ years preferred), strong math and computer skills, and a valid driver’s license for frequent travel and field work in various weather conditions.
